Overview

Suniai ("we", "our", "us") is a mobile application that identifies Gurbani shabads by listening to recitation. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What Data We Collect

Audio Data

When you tap the listen button, Suniai accesses your device microphone and streams audio for real-time transcription. Audio is processed in real-time and is not stored by Suniai or on our servers. Once transcription is complete, the audio stream is discarded.

Device Locale

We detect your device's language setting to display the app in your preferred language (English, Punjabi, or Hindi). This information stays on your device.

Favorites & Preferences

Your saved shabads, display script preference, and language choice are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data is never transmitted to any server.

What We Do Not Collect

  • We do not create user accounts
  • We do not collect names, emails, or personal identifiers
  • We do not use analytics or tracking tools
  • We do not use advertising SDKs
  • We do not collect device identifiers for tracking

Data Processors

Suniai uses the following third-party data processors to provide the service:

Sarvam AI — Speech-to-Text

Audio from your microphone is streamed to Sarvam AI's speech-to-text API for transcription. Sarvam AI processes the audio in real-time and does not retain it after transcription. See Sarvam AI's Privacy Policy .

GurbaniNow API — Shabad Search

Transcribed text is sent to the GurbaniNow API to search for matching shabads. Only the transcribed text query is sent, not audio data.

Data Retention

We do not retain any user data on servers. Audio is processed in real-time and immediately discarded. All user preferences and favorites are stored only on your device and can be cleared by uninstalling the app.

Data Security

All network communication uses HTTPS (TLS encryption) to protect data in transit. Audio streams use secure WebSocket connections.

Children's Privacy

Suniai does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from any user regardless of age.

Your Rights

Since Suniai does not collect or store personal data on servers, there is no server-side data to access, modify, or delete. All locally stored data (favorites, preferences) can be cleared by uninstalling the app or clearing app data in your device settings.

If you are in the EU, California, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you retain all rights under applicable law. Contact us if you have any questions about your data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or on this page. Continued use of Suniai after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
