What does Suniai mean? How do you pronounce it?
Suniai (ਸੁਣਿਐ, pronounced su-ni-ai) is a Punjabi word meaning "by listening." It comes from Japji Sahib (Pauris 8-11), where Guru Nanak describes how deep, attentive listening to the Divine brings spiritual wisdom and inner peace. It also works as a little wordplay: suni-AI — listening, powered by AI. Felt like the perfect fit.
How does Suniai work?
Suniai uses your device's microphone to listen to Gurbani being recited. It transcribes what it hears and searches for the matching shabad, then opens it in the built-in reader so you can follow along.
Is my audio recorded or stored?
No. Audio is streamed in real-time for transcription and is immediately discarded. Nothing is saved on our servers or on your device. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What languages does Suniai support?
The app interface is available in English, Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ), and Hindi (हिन्दी). Gurbani text can be displayed in Gurmukhi, Devanagari, and Roman scripts.
Why didn't Suniai recognize the shabad?
Recognition accuracy depends on audio clarity, background noise, and recitation speed. Try holding your phone closer to the source and ensuring minimal background noise. You can also manually search by typing the first letters of each word.
Does Suniai require an internet connection?
Yes. Suniai needs an active internet connection to process audio through the speech recognition service and to search the Gurbani database.
Is Suniai free?
Yes. Suniai is free to use with no ads, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases.
How do I report a bug?
You can submit feedback or report bugs at suniai-app.userjot.com , or email hello@suniai.app with a description of the issue, your device model, and OS version. Screenshots or screen recordings are very helpful.
How do I delete my data?
Suniai stores all data (favorites, preferences) locally on your device. To delete it, uninstall the app or clear app data in your device settings. No data is stored on our servers.
